Mui Ne Beach is 4 hours from Saigon. I thought I'd like to be on the beach for my birthday and spent the day sitting on the beach a few metres from my hotel room door relaxing in the beautiful sunshine and warm sea (are you jealous yet?) but I did get stung on the butt by a jelly fish which wasn't such a good birthday present, the stinging only lasted half an hour!! Thank you for all the birthday messages everyone, it was strange being away for my birthday. Mui Ne is lucky in that it doesn't get much of the rainy weather that is around the south at the moment, we haven't had a drop of rain since we've been here. It's not very busy here, I think most people head up to Nha Trang which is a bigger beach resort. Today we went sand dune sledging. There are huge sand dunes here and you get this sort of plastic sheet to sit on and trudge up to the top of the sand dune and then push yourself down, getting sand in your hair, eyes, mouth, up your nose, pretty much everywhere! It was absolutely boiling there and we only had two goes and had to go back down. Two Vietnamese boys on their break from school were helping us and even they couldn't stand the heat. The traffic is crazy here so you have to watch out for that. We have heard a few horror stories since being here about the roads. Some of the Vietnamese drive while drunk so even if your are a great motorbike driver you can't trust the other road users and they drive on which ever side of the road they wish. Since we have been here 2 accidents involving tourists on motorbikes have happened, and both of them were their own faults. Basically just don't get a moped or a motorbike, because even if you do get in to an accident the police are corrupt and there's a chance you can be arrested even if it wasn't your fault and bribed (another horror story we have heard by a few foreigners that live here). But Chris and I aren't getting a moped or motorbike so don't worry mums and dads!! Tomorrow we are going to see if we can get some surfing lessons. It's really big for Kite-surfing and wind-surfing here, but we are going to stick with surfing for now, the other two look too hard.
