We made a second trip to kaikoura,as we came here at the start of our trip to see the whales but our trip got cancelled. We got lucky this time round. Kaikoura is apparently the only place where you can see the mountains and the sea together and it really is a beautiful site, and this time round we had lots of snow on the mountain tops. Sperm whales live in and around Kaikoura. We had all eyes peeled on the water for any sign of a whale. They track them down with special equipment. It took about 40 mins for one to come to the surface. The whale was named saddleback, and he stayed on the surface for about 14mins. It was brilliant, it was about 10m away from the boat, and it eventually dived down into the water and it's tail flipped up in the air as it went down. We will try to get them photos on asap. Sometimes they see other species of whale but we weren't that lucky.
