On Wednesday we took the opportunity to get off campus for a while, considering we didn't really have much to do in the way of orientation activities. We walked a little over 2 miles to get to the Hamilton Gardens, which is thankfully so close to campus. On the walk, we discovered a different path to get there, which went past a river and had a lot of different things to see before we even arrived. Upon arrival, we split into smaller groups and walked through all of the gardens (I think). The gardens were completely stunning and all in all it was a super fun day. After getting through all there was to see, we stopped in this little cafe and got some of the best fries I've ever tasted in my life (thick wedges covered in melted cheese/bacon bits and dipped in salsa). This day showed me that what I love most about being here is that you don't need to plan some huge trip to have fun and appreciate New Zealand, you just have to be willing to say yes to the opportunities that (inevitably) come your way.
