Singapore! And the beginning of stage three of the trip. The whole reason that the trip developed was around the idea of going to South East Asia and it has taken me almost four months to get here. It is hot. So hot. Why did I not prepare myself for this!? We arrived late at night and straight into the heat and humidity despite the time. Very different to Sydney. We set out the next day into the heart of Singapore for a full day walking around, despite the heat. We started at Little India and had a short walk around before heading into the old colonial district. We visited Raffles and considered having a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar, but at 29.50 dollars each we decided a beer elsewhere would probably quench our thirsts a bit better!
We have been walking around New Zealand and Sydney gazing wistfully at all of the asian restaurants, of which there were a lot, and finally now that we are here we can eat asian food to our heart's content! What a luxury. And at prices which we think are deffinately right. We continued walking and found ourselves over the river and skirting the edge of China Town before deciding that we needed to head back.
The next day we went with our very kind hosts to the British Club to sit by the pool and lounge around. We then spent the afternoon down by the east coast and rented bicycles which we took up and down the coast for a few hours. Self created breeze as we peddled along was much needed. The area there is amazing with completely flat tracks along which people are cycling, skating and boarding and people all around having BBQs and fishing. We then went to a lovely restaurant on the coast and ate SIngaporean food - chilli crab - and basically all ate until we couldnt move! Alex and I then went for a wander around China Town to see it at night and found a stage with some form of show on and loads of shops and restaurants to browse.
Today we went into town again and went to the Botanic Gardens, until it rained on us. We caught a bus to Little India for lunch and explored the area a bit more before heading to the bus station to book our bus to Malaysia. We strolled a rather round about route back to the bus stop, via areas which really arent designed for pedestrians. But if there is something on the map I tend to want to go there. The map doesnt tell you if it is worth going to or not!
We found ourselves back in time to go to the night safari, but once again it started to rain and so we have postponed that particular adventure for tomorrow.
I will try to keep this blog a little bit more up to date for the time being, so over and out for a short while only!
