We have only got a week in Malaysia, unfortunately, so after the smoothest overland border crossing known to man (it was Singapore afterall) we found ourselves in a little port town called Malaka, halfway between Singapore and KL. Hot, humid but quaint and walkable. So we got ourselves to a lovely little guesthouse which the owners lived in and therefore it was clean and cosy, with a great kitchen area to meet people.
The town itself doesnt have all that much to see so we saw half of the sights in a half hour trishaw session. The trishaws were great! Amazingly decorated and very flowery. We may have picked THE fattest trishaw driver in the square and his English wasnt amazing so we arent sure of some of the stuff we saw but he did deodorise frequently which we give him full kudos for!
The highlight of my time in Melaka was the first night - satay steamboat. Oh yes. Basically you pick the food you want which is all skewered onto sticks or on little plates and you cook it in the bubbling pan of satay sunk into the middle of the table. GENIUS idea! Fun, messy and delicious. We then went to a little bar which was recommended and found a girl doing an acoustic set on the guitar which we watched sipping fruit smooties. Doesnt get any more wholesome than that!
We moved on from melaka to KL with a girl we met at the hostel and spent yesterday on a major sightseeing session. Up the Petronas Towers (including a 7am start to get tickets), Little India, China Towns, etc etc. Oh and a quick visit to M&S to look at the nice M&S cookies and Percy Pigs! Unfortunately the budget didnt stretch to actually purchasing them but a few lingering looks and caresses later we managed to leave the food section without them!
Today we are going to the batu caves but are waiting for the heat to decrease a little first and tomorrow we hit Vietnam! Woooooo.

Grannie Grannie again, when Granda and I were in K.L. one of his ex Ph.D student was in charge of a rubber plantation and we were allowed to tap a rubber tree. It is very hot and humid and just about bearable. Have fun in Vietnam. Love you lots, Grannie
