We moved on from the orphanage without finishing the mountain fountain but with promises that photos would be sent, and with a sad farewell to the kids. Amazing how attached you can get to some of them! But it was time to move on and start the second to last leg of the trip - beach time!
We spent the day travelling to Sihanoukville, a seaside resort in Cambodia which was lovely. A little overcast as our luck seems to have it but with plenty of free drink deals to keep us sweet!
We left the bus station on the back of two motos, (sorry mum, cheapest option!) the driver managing to fit an extra person and all of our bags onto the bike - amazing! But I had to fight every instinct in me to not put my feet on the ground and let him ride off without me so that I didnt have to stay on! At least we can say weve done it now and on a pretty short trip too.
The actual beach is suprisingly small and it is impossible to sit without being hassled to have a mani/pedi/massage/buy a bracelet. Intensly annoying and meant that moving onwards to Thailand was made that little bit easier!
The journey however wasnt. The most epic journey of the trip I think. I cant possibly go into detail so here is a summary:
7.20pm - night bus
midnight - short stop in phnom pehn
6am - change bus at siem reap
9.30-10.30 - cross the border
11.30 - mini bus to bangkok, arrival time estimated at 1pm on kho san road; actual arrival at 3.30 a half hour tuk tuk ride, which we had to pay for, from kho san road
4pm - arrive kho san road, purchase bus ticket for 2 hours time to the islands
6pm - overnight bus to surat thani
6am - arrive and get minibus transfer
6.10am - new mini bus for another transfer
12pm - ferry
2pm arrive at the islands
Basically we were happy to be there! 39 out of 41 hours spent travelling! Never to be repeated I hope! Now to love you and leave you and go to sun myself. Journey = totally worth it!!!
