Today we decided to explore the islands dotted around the bay. We caught a ferry to George's Island initially at a cost of $14 each. Then explored the island which has a huge fort on it. It is in a strategic place as the only way into Boston harbor was to negotiate your way through a channel that only passes this island. So during the war of independence they set up Fort Warren. We explored this and enjoyed the views back to Boston. Then for an additional $3 each we could jump on the water taxi to each of the other islands in the bay. A very cheap 5 hr cruise we thought! The weather was very hot so it was lively sitting in a boat in the shade with a cool breeze in our faces. We had lunch on one of the stops and got back to Boston by 3 - ish.
When we got back we caught the subway back from the long wharf and dad got to enjoy the trains as well.
Lynette and I decided we needed to get out to Harvard- now we can say, "we went to harvard!"
The grounds were beautiful and old, we took photos of John Harvard and walked through the school of law and sciences. It was green and in the middle was a huge garden with three hundred year old trees. there were heaps of students lounging around enjoying the shade.
After we got back on the subway, we shopped a little before catching up with Mum and Dad for dinner. An inside out Burger at the 5 Hands Burger! Yum!
