Washington was very pretty, hot muggy and not as busy as I thought it would be. Our group saw the United States Capitol, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Zoological Park, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Memorial, the reflecting pool, the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian museums, Mt.Vernon (home of Washington), and took a ghost tour in Alexandrea. It was interesting seeing Washingtons home, Mt.Vernon and hearing about how he treated his slave which was very well, and seeing all his inventions that he made.
One of the inventions that he made was the 16 sided barn. Washington grew a large amount of his cash crop, which was wheat. The slaves had a hard time getting the seeds out of the wheat plans, and if it rained the seeds would be ruined. Every year he would loose about 20% of his cash crops. He wanted a way to get more of the seeds that he would have lost. So he invented the 16 sided barn, there were slits in the bottom of the barn so when the horses would run on the wheat the seeds would fall down into the bottom so the slaves could sweep the seeds up to clean and ship them. So now at the end of the year Washington had lost about 10% of his crops instead of 20%. He also got to exercise his horsesin the process.
I just though that was interesting. Can't wait for tomorrow, thats a step closer to home so I can be in my own bed, I miss my animals and family so I will enjoy all I have left of the trip till we get back home so I can tell great stories...bye
