Today we arrived in the Austrian Alps to a village called Tyrol. The scenery was just amazing as we journeyed from Italy through the Alps!!
Once there we were all organised in our rooms in our cute little hotel (run by a kiwi couple who have been in Austria for 17 years) and then split up to do our optional activities. There were people sky diving, paragliding, canyoning, bike riding and then others just chilling out for the afternoon.
Chris and I went canyoning along with 12 others from our group. I was absolutely terrified but excited at the same time. Once we were in our wetsuits and up at the top our first step was to abseil down a waterfall to a ledge about 1/3 of the way down (23m waterfall in total). After that our next step was to jump off the ledge and into the water below (ideally without smacking the rock on the other side) so you had to jump pretty straight. One of the scariest things I've ever done but once the biggest bit was out of the way the rest was sooo much fun. We slid down waterfalls and climbed through rock caves and abseiled down some more waterfalls until the end.
After all the excitement we came back to the hotel and Chris went to a beer tasting evening at the hotel while I wandered with a few girls around the little town. We then had a lovely home cooked meal, home made tomato soup, traditional Austrian chicken stew and the to top it off Apple strudel. Very fun and relaxing day.
