Paraty - Day 6 - 05/10/2012 (Friday)
After an hour on the boat back to the mainland and about 2 hours on the bus we arrived in Paraty. We quickly checked in and then jumped in a taxi to a waterfall. When we arrived we had a quick look round a distillery that makes the liquor that goes into caipirinha's. we all got to try a tiny little amount of some. After that we walked up to the waterfall. This wasn't just any old waterfall.. This one you could slide down. It was about 20 meters long and 10 meters wide, all of really smooth rock. As the water flowed over it, it had made it all slippery. A few people went before me and when it was my go this local boys kept pointing at a section that was faster. Not wanting to be a wimp I gave it go. You pick up quite a bit of speed and then right at the end there is about a 2 meter drop into a deep pool. It was so much fun that I had to go back up and do it again. When everyone had had a go the local kids started to show us how it should be done. They took a run up and then went down the whole thing standing up!! It would take me years to learn how to do that. But they weren't finished there. They started doing tricks as well like spinning all the way down and jumping over each other.
The bus back into town wasn't for an hour so we called for some taxis which took forever to come. Once back in town we went for yet another amazing dinner and then sat in the town square outside a bar which had some live music. The bar even had the cheek to charge us 7 real each for the "concert".
Paraty - Day 7 - 06/10/2012 (Saturday)
Today we had opted to all go on a boat trip around the islands of Paraty. Sarah and I got up a bit earlier and went for a walk around the town before it go to busy. Paraty is an old gold mine town right on the coast. The old part of the town is all cobbled all the roads are in a U shape as the town used to flood a lot. This shape meant you could still get around on the higher part of the road and the water could drain off when the tide went out.
We went back and got changed then headed to the boat. The boat was 2 layers and we went straight up top int he sun. We set sail to the first island and almost straight away they started serving us caipirinha's. At our first stop we all jumped off and went for a swim. A few people even went over the top of the boat. The rest of the day went like that. Caipirinha's, jumping off the boat, swimming, caipirinha's, some lunch, caipirinha's and then to finish the day off we had to do a snorkel challenge. This involved putting a snorkel on while someone poured caipirinha's down the air funnel. You then had to quickly drink it. That really finished a few people off. We had one more swim and then headed back to land. All I am going to say is it was an interesting walk back to the hotel. A few of us managed to be awake enough to grab a quick dinner and then we all had an early night.
Paraty - Day 8 - 07/10/2012 (Sunday)
Woke up quite early as we'd had a lot of sleep. Started to pack ahead of our 23 hour bus journey. We kicked back and relaxed in the hotel for a bit before getting on the first of 2 buses...
