IIha Grande - Day 3 - 02/10/2012 (Tuesday)
After about 3 and a half hours on the bus we arrived at a port to jump across to IIha Grande island. The catamaran then took about an hour. We sat up top and watched as the island came into view. The town we arrived in was tiny. It only had about 2 streets. We were staying in a lodge towards the back of the town. Sarah and I got upgraded to the honeymoon suite although I don't think it was any different from any of the other lodges. It was already getting dark so the whole group went into the town and got some dinner. We all got to try the local liquor; caipirinha. After dinner we went to a bar. They seem to have this really odd system where you have to go to the cash counter to pay for what you are having and then take the receipt to the bar to get your drink.
IIha Grande - Day 4 - 03/10/2012 (Wednesday)
After a bit of a late night the night before it was hard getting up at 8am but we had to get an early start as we had a 3.5 hour trek ahead of us. The best bit is that everyone in the group was up for the walk. They could have wimped out and got the boat to our destination. We set off about 9 and it was already really hot. It walk fairly slow going as some people where hung over and the first hour was all up hill. After about 2 hours we reached a beach and everyone became really happy but we soon learnt this wasn't where we were headed so we pushed on. A few beaches later we were getting close but we stopped on a path for a bit because there were about 6 capuchino monkeys. They were so tiny. Not even 30cm tall. They came so close as they thought we were going to feed them. Soon after the monkeys we reached Lopes Mendes beach. It has to be the most stunning beach I have ever seen. It was really long and perfect sand as far as the eye could see. We didn't hang around long and were straight into the sea. It was freezing but after such a long hot walk no body cared. There were some really strong waves so I went body surfing. We sat around on the beach for another couple of hours going back in the sea every so often. About half 3 we had to start back as the boat we needed to catch back to town left at 4. The boat took about an hour. Sarah and I say at the front as as the sea was quite rough we got soaked. Luckily we were in our swimming stuff. Once back at the lodge we had organised to do a BBQ. Another group of travellers joined us as they are doing our trip just in reverse. Someone thought it would, be a good idea to play beer pong where u have to gets a ping pong ball into your opponents 9 cups on the other side of the table. If you get it in they have to drink. The only difference was that we played it with Capprieni and not beer. I think our group won every time. Once the BBQ was done we set off for town and just hung out on the beach for a bit. Someone decided limit would be a good idea to go on a boat. I don't think we were meant to be on it so everyone got off fairly quickly. A few of us headed back and sat up chatting for a bit.
IIha Grande - Day 5 - 04/10/2012 (Thursday)
Not as early start as the day before but still early enough. We were going on another hike but this time not as long. Our first destination was a waterfall. Took us about 90 minutes to reach. It was something out of a film. I was straight in and got to stand under the waterfall. It was freezing but so nice given how hot it was again. Everyone had a turn apart from Sarah so I managed to convince her to come in so that meant I got to go back in again! After the waterfall we set off for another beach. We stayed there for a couple of hours. Almost everyone else got to boat back but 4 of us decided to walk back. Without the group we managed to get back in about an hour. We sat around the lodge for a bit chatting to people before heading out for some dinner. We decided to get a pizza but just as we'd decided someone said they wanted to go to the beach restaurant. So we walked down there but then others said they wanted pizzas so we split up. Oddly enough we went to a bakery for pizza but it was really nice. After dinner we went to this strange hostel bar. The bar man had the weirdest dread locks ever.
IIha Grande - Day 6 - 05/10/2012 (Friday)
Time to leave the island. Yet another early start. We walked down to the port to jump on the boat but it was almost 40 minutes late. While we were waiting these dogs kept getting into fights. It was funny to see all the girls scatter. The locals didn't care and left the dogs to it.
