June 30th (Tuesday) - Day 121 - Cradle Mountain and Hobart
We set off early as we had a lot of ground to cover. The road was really hard going as it twisted and turned through the mountain range and it took us a lot longer to reach our first stop than we had planned. This was on the south side of Cradle mountain at another larger lake called St Clair. It was really windy but we wanted to walk part of the track so braved the elements. The first part of the walk was meant to be an Aboriginal walk but we never found out why. This lead us to waters meet and round to a platypus sanctuary (we didn't see any!). On the walk back we were both really lucky. The wind had picked up and metres in front of us there was a massive crash as a branch fell off a tree. We were so lucky we were not underneath that as it fell or I would not be writing this and you would not be yawning at this. I wanted to drive along to a series of dams but after the mornings drive we decided it would take far too long. Instead Sarah found a tree top walk which sounded interesting so we opted to do that instead. Once we got closed I heard "oh". Sarah had read the book wrong and we were not heading for a tree top walk. Instead we were greeted by one of the best waterfalls I have ever seen. Loads of water flowing from such an incredible height. We even climbed to the top to look over the edge. We pressed on to Hobart and had an evening out after having to pack everything into one bag for our flight back to Melbourne the next morning.
