On the 2nd December we flew to Delhi and once at the airport managed to get a flight the same day to Ahmedabad, where we were greeted by a cheerful Dr Rawal at the airport (who kindly stopped off at a chemist and bought Neil some antibiotics). He put us up in a hotel for the night and collected us the next day and we caught a bus to Bhavanger (this was the nicest bus we had been on as it was a private bus, we were used to state buses). That day we got to meet lots of Dr Rawals relatives and friends. As soon as we arrived is was masala tea and snacks at the brides fathers house. There was some mix up with the hotel we were meant to stay in so we ended up staying at Dr Rawals mates house Dr Metha (who had a beautiful home). My God! What a fantastic breakfast we had there the next day. Tried so many different foods that I had never seen or tasted before. Dr Metha took the morning off work and he, myself, Neil and Dr Rawal did some sight seeing. We went into a diamond factory, visited temples and went to a well known ship breakers yard (that was Neils idea not mine as you can imagine).
All of Dr Rawals family and friends were so friendly and welcominging. They were teaching us to speak a few phrases in Gujarati and taught us about the Hindu culture. We were not allowed to pay for a single thing as because we were Dr Rawals guests we were also their guests. There were some real characters amongst these people. Dr Metha we feel deemed himself as 'the Godfather', he would be like 'anything you want I get, meat, pizza, beer.......' Alcohol is actually illegal in Gujarat and meat very rare as most Hindu's are vegetarian. Another character (cant remember his name) but reminde us of Samual L Jackson with a certain level of arrogance about him. We met Advit (who we named 'the big man') who looked after us so well, introduced us to butter leaf a concotion of sugar, menthal and God knows what rolled up in a leaf. Used to aid digestion.
The wedding and couple of days we spent with Dr Rawal and his family and friends was most enjoyable and entertaining. Would not have missed it for the world!
