We arrived in Sydney safely and made it to the YHA central hostel. New building and very impressive especially when you need a key card to enter the bathrooms!!
Due to the change of plan and short amount of time between here and Brisbane, we weren't able to get a dorm room so had a twin room for 2 nights. The price was ridiculous as the "twin" room was actually a bunkbed. Oh well, it was all they had available.
Day 1: we walked to Darling Harbour and went to the Sydney Aquarium where Neil got more than his fair share of sharks. We saw a male 'mermaid of the sea' (unsure of its real name) who got VERY excited by the crowds watching him and made us all chuckle.
We made it to the Sydney Sky tower and headed to the top for great views of the city and beyond. Through the telescope we were able to make out people climbing the Harbour bridge.
Day 2: we woke early and headed to Circulaur Quay for a look around. There was a huge cruise ship and although the weather wasn't great the views of the bridge and the opera house were very impressive. from here we walked around The Rocks, an area in town with historical importance. We visited the museum where we found out this was the place the sailors lived when Sydney was first established. Through the rocks we found the walkwayto the bridge and made our way there. At the entrance was the Pillar of the bridge we decided to climb (only $190 cheaper than climbing the brdge itself...hmmm) and got great views of the bridge and the city. At this point we were in contact with Sue and co and decided to meet her near the opera house. So we walked the length of the bridge and found Luna Park, amusment park on the other side. We had a wander through here and got the boat back over the sea to Circular Quay and the Opera house.
Sue had told us she would be here and we had fun searching for her amongst the crowds. We eventually spotted each other and a quick catch up. Very strange to see someone familiar in a different country. Sue came with me and Neil and the girls did their own thing. We walked through the park and the Botanical gardens (sue managed to get us a tad lost!) and eneded up in the Sydney museum. Unfortunatly the place was about to close, sue managed to use her irish charm to get us in free for the last 20 mins (saving us $36) and we had a quick scout around taking quick, and usless, snaps!!
We visited the cathedral, which i think was st marys, and said a prayer and lit a candle (neil waited otside) before seperating and arranging to meet in Kings Cross for a few drinks in the evening.
The walk back was LONG and a quick shower and change and we had to leave again to get the metro to near where Sue was staying. We had a great catch up and a few drinks,as we were just getting into the swing of it, it was time to get the last metro home.
Day 3: our last day in Sydney before our bus to Melbourne at 7pm. We decided to go on our own trip to the Blue Mountains to see the 3 sisters. Although the views were lovely and we were pleased to have gone, it was quite a rush to get there and back in time for th bus so we didnt fell we really got the best of the day. Never mind!
Melbourne time and this time we mean business about finding work..........
