La Serena, Chile
Ok so we have been in Serena for 3 nights now. We are staying in Marias Casa which is a lovely little place, more or less a family home with extra rooms!
Day 1: we arrived quite late so nipped out for a quick scoot around in the plaza for a bite to eat before heading back. The weather was ok but gets very cold in the evenings.
Day 2: we took our laundry to be cleaned ,found the supermarket for a few lunches and dinners and decided to brave the city. We found one of the 29 churches and popped in for me to say a quick prayer :)
Still not totally adjusted and so many dogs around its unbelievable, although the general place is MUCH better than the last!!
Today: being very brave after a few pep talks from the UK we decided to try again to see the city (as we had been quite unsucessful on previous attempts) we got up and packed and walked to the Museum of Archaelogy which was interesting and then made it to the oldest church in the city which was beautiful. After that we walked to the Japanese gardens where wetook a peaceful walk around away from it all. Ver y pleasent. Feeling calm still (and no dog problems so far) we walked over a km to the beach/lighthouse. Not exactly the type of place you would want to hang around for a while.....but at least we went and saw it!!
So now we are trying to bide time until our bus comes at 10pm. We are a bit bored and quite cold as we gave the keys to our room back this morning!
It isnt the best blog in the world but thats pretty much what we have done since arriving in Serena. We are still getting used to it all and this was jsut a place to stop off in on the route north. We hope our next stop, San Pedro de Atamaca, will give you a little more....until then, adios.......................................
