G'day! I'm back from an exhausting 2 day tour of Kakadu National Park!
Yesterday I was up and at the tour office by 5.45! Got myself checked in and got my pass etc. Then followed a nig group of people to the bus... I asked which bus I was on then got on it. Only to find out that that bus was going to Alice Springs! So I had to hop off quickly, and get on the proper bus! Trust me, tho it was the guides fault telling me which bus to get on! Eventually we were on our way, first stop Fogg Dam to spot some birdlife and maybe a croc! We didn't see crocs but saw plenty of birds which were cool! After that we hit Adelaide River, where we did the Spectacular jumping croc cruise! Again! But this time we were on the bigger boat and more crocs appeared coz they recognise the sound of the engine!
After the croc cruise I was talking to the skipper (who was very enthusiastic the whole time) and he said that a movie released last year called Rogue was filmed on the Adelaide River and the croc in the movie was 7m long... the previous day he found a 7m long croc in the river! I would have loved to see it, bloody majassive! Then off to Kakadu we went!
Our first stop in Kakada was Nourlangie Rock, famous for the ancient Aboriginal paintings that can still be seen on the rock, tho they are fading! It was fascinating listening to the stories behind the paintings and I asked quite a lot of questions about bunyips (thanks Dot and the Kangaroo!). Apparently bunyips are a white people's story... nuff said! We got caught in a monsoonal downpour!! And got absolutely soaked through, even my underware was soaking! And I found out that (thankfully) my camera case is waterproof!! Even though it was soaked thru too!
We headed over to Cooinda Lodge for our campsite. The tents were 2 man and had beds in them! Luxury compared to Karijini! I had my fingers crossed that all my clothes would dry as I didn't have a change of clothes! We went for a swim in the $1 million pool before grabbing dinner then crashing out! I called home and in the process was eaten alive by mozzies!!
Up early again, 4.45 for breakfast and got everything packed up and cleaned out then it was off to Motorcar Falls. It was a 3.5km trek to get there and let me tell you my fitness has improved significantly! Yay! I was slightly puffed but Kate our guide was surprised to see me at the front of the group! I told her i was extremely unfit! Lol. After the trek the swim in the pool was so refreshing! After Motorcar Falls we went to Boulder Creek, and swam (or floated more like) in the pools there before heading to a final waterfall then heading back to Darwin!
Next up is an early start again, and off for a 3 day tour to Alice Springs, so the next time you'll hear from me is Friday in Alice!!
Hooroo, love and miss you all xxx
