So moving up along the coast my next stop was Nha Trang. It wasn't that far from Mui Ne and my experience on the sleeping bus was quite pleasant..chilled listening to my music, I was quite comfortable! It was actually quite funny when a local girl asked me out for a date before she got off the bus. I don't think she could speak much english so she was speaking to me via the bus driver, talk about the middle man haha!
Anyway, got off the bus to be surrounded by local motorbike taxi, managed to find a guy who spoke really good english to take me to a cheap hotel..I think he took me to a place where he got commission but I didn't mind, the hotel was nice and only $5 a night.
The next day I met up with Joe (canadian) from Mui Ne and we planned a pretty full day of seeing the sights around the city. AGAIN the weather was cloudy so the beach wasn't really on the cards! Gutted! Also in my hotel we met another guy called Mark, really funny guy from London who decided he wanted to join us. Not going to lie, despite the weather I had such a great day.. Hired my english speaking taxi guy and two more of his friends to take us around the city. First was the Buddist Pagoda..amazing detail everywhere you looked, on the top of the hill was a huge budda, really cool and I have no idea how they kept it so white all the time.. The second was the french cathedral, again very impressive right in the heart of the city. Lastly was the mud baths and hot springs! Now this was awesome!! Had such a laugh here and took some great photos..really wierd having a bath in mud! haha!! After the mud was a quick shower, the hot springs, a waterfall and then a swimming pool..there were so many things that made us laugh I could go on for ages!!
Back from the mud baths, an hour or so chilling in our hotel we went out for dinner...crocodile and ostrich for me and Joe, sweet and sour chicken for Mark! Wuss haha! Then met up with Joe's friend who wanted to take us to a different restaurant..it was a place that donated all profits to local orphanages in Nha Trang..really amazing to hear his story moving from being an accountant in Australia to working for a charity and opening a restaurant in Vietnam! A few beers and a beach club afterwards was the finale to a great day..has to be a contender for my favourite so far..it just shows that good company and good friends can make all the difference!
The next day we wanted to see the Ba Ho Waterfall and monkey Island.. An absolute treck to the waterfall (about 40km) to find that it was closed because it was too dangerous..great! Next Monkey Island, again it was raining so it seemed that all the monkeys had ran indoors..had more sense than us! Honestly, cold and wet we couldn't wait to get back to the mainland, our highlight was watching "the boat that couldn't park!" the sea was so rough it couldn't judge how fast to come in..thought we would have to stay there for ages. Despite the weather and only seeing about 5 monkeys we still had fun, stupid jokes, laughing and trying to sing to locals about cornettos were topics of the day!
Getting home it was a quick dash to the charity restaurant of the night before, we followed the owner to one of the local orphanages to spend a couple of hours with the kids.. Really great fun, at first they were all huddled in the corner but after a short while growing in confidence all they wanted to do was to play!! They absolutely loved the rocket ship and birdy/the claw! Haha my dad did that to me and I loved it..funny the things you remember when you are little! They really were adorable! 2 hours with them went all too quickly even though I was absolutely shattered from constant playing doing the rocketship! Amazing day!
My last day in Nha Trang.. Joe had left for Hoi An (my next stop) and so it was just me and Mark. Again it was just fun to chill around the city..we hired a motorcycle and explored. Funnily enough we spotted Erica and Shauna (Canadian friends) and spent some time with them again. I left for Hoi An later that day so it was an early dinner (burgers and pizza) which we had both been craving for so long! Exchanging emails and fond farewells we said our goodbyes..shame we were heading in opposite directions but hey had a great time in Nha Trang and made some awesome memories..Can't get much better than that!
Until next time!
