Away from the beach to the busy city of Kuala Lumpor!
The boat from Ko Lanta left early in the morning so I said goodbye to Dom who I had spent time with on Koh Phi Phi and Ko Lanta already becoming a good friend of mine. He was flying to Singapore from Krabi so I might be able to catch up to him in Singapore if I get there before he leaves for Bangkok..
So anyway, caught the speedboat to the mainland early in the morning then a mini bus to Trang. It was a quick change of bus again to Hot Yai to cross the border into Malaysia. The border was ok, eventually crossing but causing alittle confusion because of my dual nationality.. Back on the bus we set off for Kuala Lumpor; it was funny, back on Ko Lanta the tour person told me that I would arrive in the city at 5am the following morning yet I was seeing signs for the capital only 450km away..surely that would only take me 5hrs or so..True to the signs we arrived 5hrs before scheduale making finding a hostel a bit of a nightmare! On the bus I spoke with an Austrian couple who said I could stay with them since they had a spare bed and a reservation at a hostel. Very grateful we found its location right near China Town, the cheapest place to stay in the city. Not too bad!
The following day we wanted to see sights of the city. We walked to Merdeka square, the national monumant, the Tun Adbul Razzak Heritage park, the National mosque and then around China Town for shopping and some food. Was a busy day since we did a lot of walking but it was nice to get a true feeling for the city in and amoungst the hustle and bustle!
Later that evening I saw on facebook that a friend from my old group in Roam Cambodia was in KL..We organised a meeting point then headed to Traders sky bar to check out the sights of the Petronas Towers.. Lit up in the dark it was an impressive sight giving me the feeling I was in the heart of the city. The sky bar itself was really cool but crazy expensive..a beer costing around 40rigit a pop! Luckily it was ladies night who were allowed to drink for free..making friends with a group of girls I didn't spend a penny :) awesome! Later, after many a margarita haha we went to Reggae bar for a few beers and to play a few games of pool..Again the English dominated with winner stays on lol!
I woke up the next day at about 10am, I was ready for another day of sightseeing having booked a ticket to go to the top of the KL tower to get a birdseye view of the city. Showered and dressed I was ready to leave at half past thinking the Austrian couple would have done the same.. Unfortunately they just weren't...we finally left the hostel at 1.30pm; Almost half the day gone already it reminded me why it's great to travel on your own avoiding such situations where you can do what you want when you want!
After lunch..it was 2.30 before we did anything. I flagged a taxi and we all piled in. We drove to Baku cave to see a huge Hindu temple. Despite its significance I just found the place dirty and I wasn't too impressed with the cave it was in. I think the best bit was being chased by monkeys because I was eating a cornetto..some funny photos later we were back in the cab heading to KL Tower.
Joel, our cab driver dropped us off right outside the tower; the largest in Malaysia and the 5th largest in the world so I was looking forward to seeing the city at such a height. Up to the very top we saw a 360 degree view of the whole city; was good to see, especially towering over the Petronas towers but we were only up there for about 15 minutes which was all that was needed really..
After KL we drove to Time's square; a huge shopping mall which had 9 floors of shops..don't know if I had been there before but it definitely looked familiar..buying a couple of things including flip-flops which I lost on Koh Phi Phi I walked back to the hostel to chill. Could have done so much more today but oh well you live and learn!
10am the next day haha I left to sort out my travel to Singapore. It would be nice to catch up with Dom before he left for Thailand and I also needed to get there for my flights; booked to leave on the 28th.. All sorted I got back to the hostel at 1pm..and you guessed it still in bed haha! We said our goodbyes and I thanked them for letting me stay making my accommodation so much easier..
I rang Joel to pick me up at 4.30pm to take me to the bus station which allowed me time to grab some food before I went. I sat down at Reggae bar and was joined by a guy from Africa. Such an interesting man I laughed hearing about all his experiences when he was younger..how when he was 18 during a drunken night he threw darts at a map and then booked tickets to the place it landed.. Cayman Islands it was haha! Now, building super yachts for millionaires to just buying an Island in Fiji! Amazing what life throws your way if you have the guts to persue your dream! Inspired that's just what I'm going to do.. Still talking about everything and after alot of beer and whickey he asked me to get in touch when I get to Fiji! Such a wicked contact to have an hopefully we'll keep in touch.
4.30pm came and I was drunk, Joel drove me to the station and I paid for my ticket. After, because the coach only left at 6.30 Joel and me went out to get some more beers haha! Drinking with my taxi driver lol..Some food later and my head spinning I got on the coach and fell asleep! Nothing like a bit of alcohol to knock you out before a journey..worked quite well :)
To Singapore Baby!
