Leaving Chiang Mai I took a trip to Chiang Rai to take a look at the Golden Triangle. It is a place where Thailand, Laos and Burma all meet and home to Opium Island. It was a nice little day trip and worth a visit especially since we stopped off at a very strange temple called the white temple. Really beautiful on the outside it was definitely the most detailed temple I had seen on my travels. A section of Hell where hands reached out of the earth was quite freaky to a walkway and the temple to Heaven. When entering it was a complete shock, it was filled with paintings of starships, fighter jets, transformers, and Neo from the Matrix..absolutely nuts, but pretty cool all the same. According to the guide it was supposed to be a temple of our time..funny that by our time they thought of the Matrix haha!
My Thai visa had finally ran out so it was back to Laos to Vientiene to sort it all out. Met some cool people on the way and stuck with them while I was there. We went sightseeing..saw a golden temple, saw another one of Laos' cool markets and went bowling! Literally the best score I have ever had haha! With my visa sorted it was back to Thailand and Pattaya to meet my Nan and Grandad. A 5 star hotel it was AWESOME to be looked after and finally just do nothing! I read my book, ate so much food and chilled in the sunshine. The hotel was amazing and everyone there was so nice I had a great time! Thanks Nan and Grandad.. Love you loads!
Caught a bus from Pattaya to Koh Samui; took about 15 hours but the seats were huge, they reclined to a lying position and I had my own tv screen to watch an endless supply of recent movies! Epic transport! The boat was only 2 hours and so I soon found myself in a taxi on the way to find cheap accommodation. Bungalows on the beach were the way forward but were a far cry from Pattaya's 5 star luxury! Afew more days with you Nan and Grandad haha?
It was just chilling out on the beach walking to a few bars and trying the street food on the island. Amazing BBQ chicken! Met a guy from Canada while I was there and we just drove around the Island to see everything we could. Many a beach later and a huge buddha on the coast it was now to Koh Phangan and the Full Moon Party!!!
With a short ferry journey we arrived. Got a location of another beach bungalow and rented motorcycles to get us there. We decided to stay alittle way away from the main party beach; Haadrin, just because we might want sleep and I didn't really want any problems with people breaking in to our bungalow.. heard that that happened alot especially on full moon party night.
We explored the island seeing more beaches, Phrang waterfall and a forest viewpoint. It was a really chilled day; renting a motorcycle we could do whatever we wanted and go anywhere on this gorgeous island. Already my favourite it got even better with one of the most stunning sunsets I have ever seen. Sat down on the beach beer in hand watching the sun change colour and see it change the sky was just amazing.. Blue sky at 5.30, to a collage of colour at 6.30..unreal! What a lifestyle, able to see this every evening..such a good day.
Full Moon! Full Moon! Brandan and me were all kitted out with our illuminous clothes and UV paint. We set off in a taxi at about 11pm and the place was already in full swing! So many people in one place, it must have been about 15000 people..awesome! Buckets of sang som I was well on my way for a heavy night...Sang som buckets...enough said!
Managed to stay alive until 7am to see the sunrise..I can't really say I noticed the sun come up; was just dark one minute then light the next. Was funny to see all these people who couldn't hack it passed out on the sand..places where people just lay down to chill and didn't get up again. Absolutely shattered we got a taxi back to the bungalow and then it was straight to bed for me, an epic night!
The next day, a little rough I didn't do much. Slept on the beach, some food we booked our tickets to go and see ko Tao the following morning..Heard that it is an amazing place to learn to dive! Well Excited!!
Until then.
