So, 24 hours in Singapore and what an interesting place. Not sure what to make of it. Arrival to pristine airport, first thing you notice are the shining floors. Then the trees, green and growing walls, and the flowers all around the city. I’d like to spend a week here to give myself a chance to understand it better. It’s like there’s a veneer of order and spectacular architecture that covers an undercurrent of tight control and extreme wealth/inequality. But I’d like to know more. Whistle stop tour of the waterfront, a three religion temple, orchids in the Botanical Gardens (beautiful and restorative to this jet-lagged and weary traveler) and a cup of the sweetest ‘tea’ you ever had in your life, in ‘little India’ where you see not quite only men who are migrant workers on their day off. Finished the day with an Indonesian meal which was soooo welcome. On to Perth today.. more pictures of Singapore to follow when I’ve downloaded them...
