Nadia Leigh's Wanderings
I don't think there will be any photos until I return to New York. Here in hama, the only computer that has a cd writer or a disc drive, for that matter, in the same computer. For less than 60 cents an hour I can't complain.
Yesterday after 3 cups of tea (two black and one licorice) I went for another house visit. I'm in Hama were they have these huge water wheels that bring water into the countryside farms. They are hundreds of years old and still work quite well. While wandering around the old CD I stumbled upon a block of artists studios. I sat and talked, drank tea, and munched on nuts for an hour or so until I was invited to one of the artists friend's homes.
At Sabri's house we first had water, then green tea, coffee, black tea, then more water with our dinner of mint, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, bread, a hot pepper, which that I burned my tongue on (from just touching the tip of my tongue to a piece of the pepper), yerba matte, and finally arabic coffee with fruit at the brothers house. Let's just say I took a couple of drips to the bathroom.
He is 57, single, speaks english, french, and -- of course-- arabic, works in the international branch of a bank, and lives in the building/house/family villa-type thingy, with his mother and brothers. His nieces were beautiful and we played together all evening. His mother kept slapping my boob as she tried to convince me to marry her 57 year old son. She said its "haram" (forbidden) for him to be single. After I kindly refused she sugguested her 22 year old grandson. He is studying veternary medicine so, as she said, he could give me lots of money. Again, I had to kindly refuse.
I will keep everyone posted about all of the marriage proposals!!!
