Neil's Round the World Trip!
I chilled around by the lagoon and put my rucksack/daysack in the luggage storage as you're only allowed a plastic bag full of belongings for the sailing boat. I'm sailing on the Habibi; a 75ft boat. Should be great fun, sailing around the islands and snorkelling. Also they tell you to bring a sleeping bag so you can sleep under the stars!
I walked along the coastal footpath in the baking heat, past the marine stingers hazard sign (which details all the jellyfish in the water that can kill you or really give you a hellish sting!). I was already a little paranoid-that didn't help!
I arrived at the marina and met the Swedish sisters. We were then introduced to everyone on the cruise and also the crew. The crew included a Scottish guy called Barry from Anstruther. We bought Carlton draught beer and goon (cheap Aussie wine that comes in foil bags) and it was stored in the huge freeze box on the boat.
We set sail for Hook Island and sat on the deck in the warm sunshine as the ship battered through the waves. There were a number of couples on the cruise and even some honeymooners. I chatted to an Italian couple from Naples. There was a huge group of Irish guys whose catchphrase was "How much? What?" -they were crazy and again from Cork!
We watched the sunset on the horizon- it was surreal. We arrived at a bay of Hook Island and put down the anchr for the night. We then had dinner and an ice-breaker( where you're from, what you do etc) It was really funny as there was an English guy who got really drunk and was just making a complete tit of himself!
At night we sang a few songs as the stereo system packed in on the last sail (but by the look of the rusty speakers I think it was maybe 10 yrs ago it broke!) I looked up at the stars as it was so clear and I saw several shooting stars!
The water temperature at night was 26c so the bunks below deck were so warm and stuffy (unbearable!) I decided to sleep on the deck but so did everyone else and these cheeky Danish girls who went to sleep at 9pm had pinched the best benches. I found a small bench, unrolled my sleeping bag and went to sleep but it was the most uncomfortable night's kip ever!
