Namaste!
After taking a taxi, a plane, another taxi and then sitting 20 hours on a sleeper bus, I finally made it from Mumbai to Hampi on sunday..I have to tell you though,it was well worth it!! When you open the door to the balcony the vue is breathtaking: rice fields, banana trees, palmtrees and huge piles of rocks everywhere..The closest thing I've ever come to heaven (apart from the Finnish archipelago, still my number one in the world!).I'm just sorry I still can't upload pictures as my memorycard doesn't like the computers here..:(
I'm travelling with a Finnish guy called Mikko for now,and yesterday we rented bikes and pedalled around for hours in the blazing heat.We went to see the monkey temple which sits on top of a hill.It was 569 steps to get up there, and I'm extremely surprised I'm still alive!!!Poor Mikko had to wait around for a panting, sweaty, bright red, exhausted pair of wobbly legs and shaky arms who stopped every 5 steps to catch her breath..But eventually I made it up and the vue was so amazing from up there that I almost forgot I was still unable to breath:D We met a funny French guy at the top and had a nice time chatting in the shade of the only tree there and just enjoying the scenery!
Of course as a result of the cycling in the sun (and did I mention it was 36 degrees celcius..) I burnt my shoulders and face quite badly. My face has calmed down now,but my shoulders are still sore and I had to wear a scarf on them today to keep them from getting worse..And today was as hot as yesterday!
We walked up to the Vittala temple and back, and quite honestly it was all I had energy for (well I did some shopping, d'uh) so after a quick sit under the mangotree (a huge one,it's famous) we made our way back to the hotel. Tomorrow I'll devote my day to writing postcards (phew, what a job, will definitely take ALL day..heehee), before taking the nightbus to Goa. I have loved the ancient feel of this place, and seeing all the ruins, but I'm also really looking forward to a few days of doing or seeing absolutely nothing but sand, sea and the sun!!!:)
