We got on the bus at 7am ready for our journey across the border and on to Bangkok. We had bought VIP tickets and had been promised a toilet, so when our bus turned up we were surprised to find it was pretty worn down. However we were promised by the driver that it was just to the border, and that the VIP bus would be on the other side of the border. Just to note, all VIP means is that it has a toilet.

We arrived at the border later than expected and got off the bus to the most incredible heat we have experienced so far. The queue was massive and unfortunately there was no shade. We quickly realised 4 other buses had turned up at the same time, so the Cambodian immigration was struggling to cope. We made it through the first part and walked down to the Thai immigration. The queue was even bigger here and again there was no shade. But unlike the Cambodian border, the Thai immigration just made us sit outside and wait for two hours in the relentless sunshine until they could get us through. It was the slowest immigration yet and with no food or water, pretty annoying. However if that's the worst border crossing yet, we surely can't have done too badly!!

We went to get our bus on the other side, but found only a mini van. Apparently this was our VIP bus. After a heated discussion with the rep, we were told we could go to the toilet now but the van would not for the next 4 hours until we got to Bangkok. Obviously this did not go down with us. It took us screaming at the driver midway into the journey to get him to actually stop.

We made it to Bangkok 12 hours later and checked into the first hotel we saw. We luckily had been dropped off on the main backpackers street so it was pretty cool. We had originally intended to get the night train straight to Laos, but because we were late we missed the train. This meant a day in Bangkok and getting the train the next day. Bangkok was so amazing we have booked in for New Year.

We successfully got the night train to Laos the next night, ready for our 11th country.
