Thanks to everyone who has commented. Silly me - I've been checking the 'Messages' rather than the 'Blog Comments'.
I'll answer what I can remember, in no particular order:
Hi Gerda - nice to 'see' you :)
Michael - great idea!
Gill - yes we are logging the birds we see - had a great find today!
Heather - not sure re Sydney - we'll see how we're going for time further into the trip.
Fiona/Arthur - I'll get back to you re first night! From memory it was somewhere before Southern Cross.
On to the blog for today - Tim and Austen are at the swimming pool here. We've had a very full day. Up early to beat the heat and out to Kata-Tjuta. Started with the Valley of the Winds circuit walk. Spectacular, and highlighted by spotting a Western Bower Bird. The walk took us a bit over 3 hours. Tim did really well, considering he climbed Uluru yesterday. We have lots of photos which I'll add later.
Re bird watching - there are apparently 104 species of bird here. Hmmm ... so that's about 99 still to find :(. We can hear quite a few, but blowed if they'll show themselves!
Then on to Windy Gorge. I sat this one out but Tim had revived enough to go with Austen.
After that it was back to the Cultural Centre. I spotted a snake whilst looking out one of the windows - a 'Lira'. Also learned that our wee nocturnal companions are Spinifex Hopping Mice.
Tonight is our last night here - will try to get half way to Alice Springs tomorow, after doing more tourist stuff in the morning.
