As we rose on our last day of this grand journey it was time to take a breath and contemplate everything we have done over the last 5 and a half weeks. Before we could do this as a family it was ladies day at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. This meant dad and I got squat and all the females got treated like queens. It started with Penny's birthday gift from Stacey and Sue which was a Spa Lomi Lomi massage treatment for 1hr. From there she had a pedicure. Stacey, Sue mum and Emily all spent some time in the Spa getting pampered as well. Matilda chose to spoil herself with a custom flip flop making session, which she made some lovely flower and diamonte thongs for herself to wear about. This was then followed by a henna tattoo. While the girls were being looked after dad and I became slaves to the system. Dad ducked out to watch the Martin Luther King day parade that went straight past the hotel. He said it was very interesting as all the politicians used it to gain support for the up coming election.
When Penny had finished her Spa treatments we went to look at the Iolani Palace while dad took Tilds to the lagoon for a swim. The Iolani Palace was built for the Royal family of Hawaii, it has a long and complicated history and is now a museum. Opposite is the golden statue of King Kamehameha standing proudly outside the office of Hawaii 5-0. Actually it is the supreme court building but lets not let that ruin the dream. We stood in the carpark and waited to see if Steve McGarrett, Danno or Kono arrived to say hi on their way back to the office, but alas they did not. It was a public holiday I guess. We also visited the church located near by which is where the first publicly elected king is buried. Opposite is the city council building which has a bell inside from the USS Honolulu, a naval ship named after the city. They also have a memorial to 9-11 out the front which was nice.
Back at the hotel I joined Tilds for a final swim in the lagoon and then we started the big pack up. After such a big journey we had to try and fit it all back in bags to come home. This trip required clothes for every season. We started with high 20's in Hawaii, went to single digits in Las Vegas, went to -20oC in Canada and then gradually increased the temperature back to mid 20's here in Hawaii. For dinner we relaxed in our room as we watched the Luau from our balcony, we had a great view. Watching the Australian Open tennis we jammed everything in and prepared for our midday departure. It will be hard to say goodbye to Hawaii as there is still so much we wanted to do, but it just gives us an opportunity to come back again.
Adios America and hello down under. The Muggleton's grand North American adventure has come to an end. The kids are looking forward to their own beds again and it's back to work for the rest of us (except those that are retired) in our quest to save the funds for the next installment of the Muggleton's Go Global.
