Greeting from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 18-22/10/06,
Having a fab time in KL. The city is colourful with a buzzing atmosphere. Is a stark contrast to Singapore which was almost clinically clean and regimented. Feels a little more like London here but with 80% humidity. We're still pretty pasty despite the heat, yes, I know its about experiencing new things but a bit of colour wouldn't go astray!
Our hostel is fairly comfortable and is central so I reckon we've been lucky considering its only around 17 Ringets (Approx 2.50 pounds). Rupees, SP Dollars, Ringets- it all gets a little confusing- just as you're getting used to one currency you up and leave, Monday will the Thai Baat. Like I said we're located pretty centrally but i'm not exactly sure what part we're in, next door to us is what looks like a gay hostel and accross the road is a club called the 'Blue Boy.' Kirstys convinced she's seen a couple of lady-boys but you can never be 100% certain.
We've done a fair bit of site seeing and walked loads. We went to the KL Tower and the KL Twin Towers. We were hoping to go up the Twin Tower but unfortunately all tickets were booked up. We've done alot of window shopping, but like most cities you really do need alot of cash if you want to really enjoy yourself.
Had a wicked time on our last night night in KL. Despite having to be up early on Sunday our land lady decided to drag us out to a nearby club. It turned out to be alot of fun, we went in and we were seated at the front by the stage and so were in the firing line for the cabaret acts to pick on us, a drag comedian and a couple of groups that did cover acts. They were very hospitable, we had jugs of Tiger beer, (courtesey of our landlady) and our glasses were never empty- you'd take a sip and the waiter would automatically come and refill your glass. There was a dance contest and Kirst was dragged up onto the stage- absolutely hilareous, and fortunately I managed to catch it on film! There were four contestants and the winner was the one who got the loudest applause and thanks to my screaming she won!
We were only intending to stay in KL for on or two nights but we had to extend that to four nights- its the Deepavali festival at present and it's made travelling to and from KL an absolute nightmare.
Ayway, tomorrow (Sun 22nd) we catch the bus to Hat Yai, Thailand (8hrs), from there we catch another bus to Krabi (5hrs) and then we commence island hopping from places like Phuket and Ko Phi Phi!
Love to you all,
Julie and kirst xxx
