Day 2 - Beijing
After being unable to go back to sleep after I woke up in the night, I started thinking about the next ten months and started wondering how I was going to cope with everything etc. In the end I woke up Martin and we were both awake until past three o'clock. So when the alarm went off at 8.30 AM there was no way we were getting up. So in the end we snoozed the alarm (well turned it off) and woke up at 12. So the day we had planned went out of the window. We had also missed our breakfast at the hostel so when we walked down the main shopping street and saw this dumpling takeaway shop we decided to go in and try some. Glad we did as they were awesome. After some food we decided to go to the forbidden city and on our way there we stopped outside some building to take pictures. Martin was taking a picture of me when this Chinese girl ran up next to me and wanted her boyfriend to take a picture of us together. She didn't say anything but she was so happy to have her picture taken with two white people. When we got to the forbidden city we were told they were closing so didn't go in. We did manage to go to Tiananmen Square and watch the whole Chinese Flag taking down ceremony. It was good but cold. To finish off the evening we went to this Vegetarian Buddhist restaurant where I think Anthony Hopkins was eating. The food was great and finished off a good and relaxing day in Beijing.
