Day 1 - Beijing China
After a relatively easy flight, though with just 3 hours sleep (Marie wanted to stay up and party), we arrived safely in our first destination, Beijing.
We successfully found our hostel, down some back alley off a market and was shown to our room, which is actually ok, though it is probably more about Marie and I realising that this is ok (and I reckon we'll look back and see this as a good one after some other countries!!) but it will probably take us a while to get used to the fact that our living will be like this for the next 10 plus months!
Went for an incredibly long walk about Beijing to get our bearings and managed to find somewhere that catered for Marie, so hoping everyday will be as easy. Wanting to be adventurous on the food but will see. I got put off when I saw one dish was beef tripe with ducks blood.
Damn cold though - had to barter for some gloves but managed to get him down from 80 to 51 and save us a whole £3!!!
Marie gave me the insight into her first hole in the ground experience and has actually said it was not only ok but that it was good and it was much better and easier than she had thought, based upon her times in the forests!!
Not that we were looking the whole time but there seems to be no other foreigners in this city and I'm not sure how many blondes they get either, considering the amount of people looking as we stroll around.
Planning the tourist sight seeing for tomorrow. Little unsure on the start of the day and the breakfast front. We are allowed 4 slices of bread, some milk and some jam (this is breakfast with the room). Thought we would get some cereal but this doesn't exist. However, we did find some ham flavoured yoghurt. Yummy.
