First day of 2010

After all the excitement of the previous day we were pretty knackered and decided to just relax and take it easy for the rest of new year’s day. The only plans we had were to head to the ‘Cinema by Moonlight” at Centennial Park with Olly and Laura to watch The Time Travellers Wife. A first for all of us, it was quite a novelty to be sprawled out in the park, under the stars to watch a film, made even more surreal by the bats that randomly flew out from the tree above us, their silhouette easily distinguishable against the night sky. By the end of the film, our only regret had been not hiring bean bags to lie on! We’re all getting too old for 2 consecutive days of sitting on park floors! Still, it was a lovely way to spend the first evening of the New Year. We had a slight sense of déjà on the journey home – yes, you guessed it – bus issues. This time we were able to hail a cab! Phew! Sadly on our arrival back at Laura and Olly’s hotel, it was time to bid them farewell as they would be heading to the Blue Mountains and onwards in their oz adventure and we would soon be departing for Singapore! It has been so lovely to have friends to meet up with and spending New years with them was an absolute blast. We can’t wait to meet up back in the UK and share stories on our upcoming adventures!

Our final day in Sydney was spent catching up with some more familiar faces! Corrine and Luke had travelled up from Melbourne for New Years, and we had arranged to meet for dinner before they headed back down south. It was great to see them again and catch up over a nice Chinese dinner, again, we’re sure we’ll definitely see them back in Blighty. Final stop of the day, drinks with Paul, Becky and Simon! It’s great to hear everyone’s different stories about their New Years Eve experience in Sydney, especially as it is a first for all of us.

Sydney has been absolutely fab! The perfect place to spend our first Christmas and new years as a married couple. We feel that we have had just the right amount of time here and are excited to continue on the adventure for what we’re sure will be the most challenging part...

3rd January - marks the beginning of our journey to Singapore. Firstly we are catching a flight to Cairns, and then it is onwards to Singapore via Darwin! It’s going to be a long couple of days....
