First night in the van was not as cold as we'd thought. After a breakfast of pancakes and fruit (to use up what we had before the quarantine station at the border) we headed into Broken Hill to refuel and had the hottest coffee in Australia.
Back on the road and headed for the border crossing at Cockburn. The scenery really started to change with hills and ranges appearing the as we headed south.
There were several historic villages dotted along the way until we reached Peterborough for a break. Here we stretched our legs along the cute Main Street, with plenty of parking for caravans near the old fashioned steam engine, we then visiting the post office, supermarket and newsagent before heading to the very helpful Visitors Information centre to help us on our trip north.
On our way to Oororoo we took a small detour to Magnetic Hill to see observe an optical illusion where the car & caravan appeared to roll up hill.
We decided to set up camp just before dark on a dry river bed on the RM Williams Way not far south of Hawker. There were plenty of pretty stones to collect and it was a perfect spot to test out the new fire bucket directly under the Southern Cross. Without a soul in sight and no noise except for the dulcet tones of The Stones, a few cold bevies and a bottle of red we were finally feeling like we could relax into the trip with the back of the driving under our belt. Now it was adventure time with a whole list of new things to tick off the bucket list.
That's Gold:
Realizing you haven't turned the hot water on until the eldest complains about how cold the shower is.
