23rd October
Arrived in Siem Reap to be bombarded by Tuk Tuk drivers. With a lack of sleep from the sleeper bus, we were not in the mood to be messed with. We checked in at the hostel before heading to the local market.....yes another one!! Siem Reap is a great market with trinkets a plenty. Katie (our aussie pal) seems to have a fetish for bags, and after buying her fourth within the space of an hour, we knew we should intervene. This market is certainly the place for 'fake but real' Ray Ban sunglasses. Morgane is now on her 5th pair! As night approached we were all on the mood for a few drinks, and with Rosie leading the way, we headed to the famous Pub Street for dinner and some civilised drinks. Well, civilised turned into a competition of who could win the most free tshirts by drinking the most amount of rum buckets. A few hours and around 6 buckets later, we were dancing on the tables of the local club....another great night in Cambodia.
24th Ocotober
Well, I have had some hangovers in my time, but this could top the bill. Waking early afternoon with what can only be described as feeling like I had been hit by a truck, I thought it best to stick around the hostel. Morgane and Rosie went out exploring the city. I thought I was bad, however Katie awoke at 5pm thinking it was time for breakfast! Excellent. The girls went for some great street food for dinner why Katie and I slept again.....maybe those jugs wernt such a great idea.
25th Ocotober
4.15am wake up this morning....and before you ask, no, I was NOT happy about this. The reason for this early rise was to see the sunrise at the famous Ankor Wat temples. Our Tuk Tuk driver had a cracking hair do so we nicknamed him Hair! We drove to the first temple "Ankor Wat" along with the rest of Cambodias tourist population. We waited for what seemed like 10 hours for the sun to come up by the lake. We first knew it was sunrise, not by the light but by the clicking of all the cameras to capture that spectacular moment....to be fair, it was a truly beautiful moment. By 6.45am we were visiting the first temple of many. I was feeling very ill on this morning so after seeing the first temple and before I fainted, I went back to the hostel to try and sleep the sickness off. The rest of the day for the girls was spend wandering around the temples taking natural but no natural pictures. The temples were incredible and truly worth its title of one of the wonders of the world. As I was feeling slightly better, when the girls returned we headed back to the market for one last sweep. With our arrival at Guy and Janes house tomorrow we went for a bit of a pamper session to make us feel slightly more human and not like smelly backpackers. Cambodia has been an amazing country to explore, we have learnt so much about the history of the country and what the Khmer people have been through. Tomorrow we fly back to Bangkok for some well earned down time with Guy and Jane........im hoping Jane will do a Sunday Roast....... :)
