G'day everybody,
We're disappointed that we've only heard a couple of people say 'g'day' and its been 4 days. We flew to Melbourne spent about 12 hours in a hotel before flying to Cairns early on Thursday. We're finally somewhere warm its awesome! The air-conditioning means I have to wear jumpers inside and need to go outside to warm up! We've thrown away loads of clothes, mainly jumpers (sorry mum but the thermals have been disposed of) and have been doing some great shopping in 'price busters' for some summer atire.
We spent the first couple of days exploring the town and using our hostel's lagoon. :) Today we went on a boat trip out to the great barrier reef which was loads of fun. We went on the newest boat 'Ocean Freedom' where we did some snorkling off a little sandy cay, had a glass bottom boat tour (I've got new super strength travel tablets so I survived) and did our first scuba dive. I was a bit scared about my breating capabilities but Mikey was very confident, until he got in the water. As it was our first dive we had one instructor for the two of us and held his hand all the way. It was 7m down and we found Nemo, massive clams, sea cucumbers and loads of other Nemo cast members so we were both delighted. We didn't get Steve Irwin'd the only ray we say was from the safety of the boat.
We've booked on to the OZ experience and leave on Wednesday, we were considering just doing the greyhound having heard mixed reviews but it just seems that you miss a lot in Australia if you just go non-stop from town to town so we're looking forward to it.
We'll have some photos up soon too.
Lots of love and warmth :)
Jo and Mikey xxxx
