The Misty River RV Campground is a great place to stay. We were very impressed with the grounds and especially the bath house. The owners welcomed us with lots of information about the area and things to do. In addition to kayaking the Little River, we toured the Tuckaleechee Caverns. The first day in Walland, TN we took the kayaks to a roadside picnic area about 8 miles north of Old Walland. This was obviously a favorite spot for the locals. The river was dotted with people sitting in the cool water in their lawn chairs, swinging from ropes and dropping into the deeper water, and fishing. Dan and I were the only kayakers on the river and offered several waves to the locals as we paddled by. The river offered several challenges - some spots being shallow and swift but mostly all fun. I had been babying my new kayak since I got it but it was completely broken in with a few hard crashes into very large rocks - and I can't forget the smaller rocks along the shallow rapids. The trip downstream was one that I would do again. We came across some amazing rock walls, beautiful homes and the most serene settings one could imagine. The second day we hiked the caverns in Townsend, TN. The mountain was 350 feet high and we went 150 feet underneath it. It was a constant 57 degrees (which my hormones loved) and with the beauty of each turn there was another story offered about the history of the cavern and the town. The tour was $15 and is recommended to anyone who loves caves and history.
With our time drawing to a close, I called a long-time friend, Rose to see if we could catch up with each other. We decided that on our way to our next destination (KY), we would meet up in her hometown of Lenoir City. As always, it was nice to see Rose and get caught up on the family and other friends. After our visit, we set out for Mammoth Cave, KY.
