First full day of the rally! Was up super early. Went down for breakfast at 0700. Rode to rally site at 0900 am. Karen Cox saw me in the parking lot. Another great, beautiful day of riding, coupled with very high winds. Didn't see too many bikers on the road, although there were some heading east (?). Gorgeous day, but still VERY high winds on the high northern plains! Ran into some road construction on MT-200 West - road completely gone, stripped all the way down to the dirt and gravel, just like in Alaska. Pilot truck and all. Came upon a guy on and RT from Pennsylvania; he did not seem to know what to do, so I pulled up next to him and told him to follow me. Up and on the road by 0700 hours. Overcast and bit chilly at 42 degrees. Once again I donnned by rain gear; wore it all day and NO rain. Just a few sprinkles about two hours into the ride. Saw a bald eagle near Ashland, Wisconsin, a nice little town on the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior. Overnight in Grand, Forks, South Dakota for the night - went completely through Minnesota, nothing so see there. Just very high winds. Stopped every hour or so to gas up...

Staying at the Econolodge Hurley-Ironwood. Had another great riding day; only caught rain the last 40 miles and it wasn't bad. Really nice scenic ride the whole way. Saw a few deer by the road. Got to the hotel at 1330 hours - checked in, then rode to the Iron Horse bar for late lunch. Had some really good pork tacos. Had a nice conversation with a couple sitting at the bar.
