NOW! -big sigh- Today…. Oh dear today! So I catch my train, now because Potsdam is on the Frankfurt side of Berlin I assumed that the stop was on the way so you can just picture me Laughing (that's all I could do) when we pulled into Berlin HBF thinking that I had somehow missed the stop. So at some point I realized it was a connecting train, as I went up to the platform the train was leaving so I had to wait another half an hour for the next one, finally I get on it at 3:40 (which in Europe during winter its already getting Dark) and finally arrive in Potsdam after 4 sometime. It was snowing, not heaps but enough to know that my original plan to walk was not a good idea also because it was dark. So I run around and find out what tram goes there I get told tram 91 and grab a map to double check, sure enough it was where I wanted to go, where I thought the hostel was. Operative word being THOUGHT! I get off and wader the street in the dark and snow and no sign of it so I walk into a nearby theatre and ask someone, he looks it up and the address was completely different from the one I had. So I stand outside this theatre for about 15 mins, just standing there, lost and unsure what to do. So I jump back on the 91 tram and get taken back to the station, there with the address the man had given me at the theatre I jump in a taxi. Already being quite dark and 5:30ish I just wanted to get where I was going, show him the address, physically hand him the piece of paper and we were off. So the first 10min we were stuck in traffic and literally 6 Eur got me as far from the station than the first tram stop but I just grit my teeth and hope we get through without costing me and arm and a leg. So we were driving for ages, it was slow in the snow anyway but we went forever further and further, finally I asked how much further and he said 2 minutes…. So im getting grumpy now thinking the taxi driver is taking me for a ride but once again I had to get there some how. We get to the street, he dives up it once, then twice, no hostel so he asks for the address back again and it just so happened he had read it wrong and I was in the wrong place AGAIN! He stops the metre and then drives me back to where I should have been and it felt like a miracle to see the name of my hostel finally, I had no idea where I was (because obviously where I thought it was, was different) but I didn't care. The driver took some money off the ride for the inconvenience and I ran, literally ran to the hostel doors! It was a huge relief to see the hostel was clean, warm and inviting, if I had another Bobs Youth Hostel experience I would of cried, literally fallen to the floor kicking and screaming.
So in conclusion todays traveling was a complete and UTTER DISASTER but I got through it by laughing, laughing, that's all I can do, it may sound crazy but you have to make a joke of things sometimes when they don't work out. Now I am in my bed sipping hot peppermint tea and having a dinner of toasted Chestnuts, an apple and German Christmas cake, that's the best I could do since I have no bearings of where I am or what direction is where or where what direction is…..? I just know there is a Christmas market across the road selling fruit, nuts and Christmas cake, that will do till morning!
