Monica's travels
Had a fantastic day yesterday, we went black water rafting in Waitomo, it was definitely one of the best things we've done yet. It was about a 2 hour drive to Waitomo from Rotorua and when we got there they gave us these brilliant caving clothes to put on to keep us warm (think thermals, wetsuits, white wellies with lots of cracks in topped off by a helmet, loving it.) and we headed off down to the caves. Black water rafting isn't like white water rafting, instead you sit in a rubber ring and float down underground rivers! It also invloved a bit of jumping off waterfalls backwards, kinda scary when you can't see what you're gonna land on. THe caves a waitomo are special cos they have loads of brilliant glow worms, they were so cool, so much brighter than I'd expected, like little blue LEDs all along the ceiling. The colour actually comes from the poo of the worms in their maggot stage, nice! We were only underground for about an hour and a half but it was so much fun I didn't even feel the cold that much. The weather's rubbish here today but we're still gonna try and make it to the Polynesian spa and tomorrow to the geothermal area on the postcard called Waiotapu.
