re: Family rootsLaurie Joslin My grandmother's family (including her parents) immigrated from Nevel around 1912. The paternal name is Widrowitz. Great grandmother's maiden name was Shagall. They were part of the Lubavitch Hassidic community in Nevel. I'm so glad they immigrated to the US when they did.

re: Family rootsSusan GInsberg Kobren Susan, I just discovered this travel blog. I enjoyed it very much. I am so curious about Nevel. I was happy to see Eliot responding here as we are second cousins. I had been in contact with his dad many years ago as we both do our family history. I would love to be in contact with Dan (again) and Eliot. I am wondering if it is possible to do through this site.
re: Family rootsJim Kelly Thank you for your very helpful website. I am about to start on 3 OAT Safaries back to back and this has been great. How was WiFi and cell reception on this trip?

My grandfather was born there and left in 1917 (we have his Russian passport). My father Daniel Ninburg was raised in NJ and raised us (his 3 children) in southern CA. Our father is now 88 and we are trying to piece together our family tree. Thank you so much for your blog post, I found it very helpful. My father, brother, and I live in Seattle and our sister is in Los Feliz, CA. I would love to talk with you sometime about your trip to Nevel
re: Family rootsS. Levin Thank you for sharing this report. I believe my grandfather came from Nevel, and fortunately for me, he and his brothers and sisters all left in 1907 for America.
