I am sat on my favourite sofa and thinking about my trip that is coming up so soon...It's safe to say I'm bricking it...
The time has crept up with me, I remember applying in April and not really expecting it would go quickly and so smoothly as it has been. After having a skype talk with the deaf project's manager Sophie..the ball got rolling. Now it is next sunday that I will be saying bye to my family, my friends, my home and my culture for 8 weeks. I have mixed feelings for this project..excited, worried, nervous, dread but I know at the end of this project.. it will all be worth it..!!
I will be on an overnight flight from heathrow on 30th September and will be staying with a host family for 8 weeks with Sara (the volunteer I am be paired with!)
I have been given the role to 'teach' the deaf children in a deaf school, which will be very interesting and I have been warned about the cultural shock, the treatment they receive and the children sees it as 'normal' so knowing how strong willed I am... I will struggle to accept and adapt into their culture. I shouldn't be worrying about things like this until I am there and I will have to deal with this when time comes. Some of you probably will laugh at this, but despite the fact I have bought the proper expensive brand of sun lotions which are 50+...I am extremely worried about being sunburnt and looking like a lobster during my stay!
I am not ready for this project at all, keep exchanging texts with the previous volunteer Aliya to have some reassurance that everything would be okay, I am grateful to have her support so if you are reading this, THANK YOU!
I am really excited for the experience, the stories, the photographs, the video clips that I will treasure forever and to tell you all about it when I return!
Til next time, ciao xxxxxx
