Hello everyone,
After just a 1 hour flight from Phuket we landed back in Bangkok. We stayed in a really nice hotel which is right next to the airport since we didn't get in until 12.30am. In the morning we got in a taxi and headed to China Town. Our driver was really chatty as he wanted to practise his English. He talked a lot about football and his love for Liverpool, they seem to be quite popular around here! The main point of going to China Town was because it is near to the train station and we wanted some restaurants and bars to hang out in for the rest of the day. We walked around with our big bags on for a fair while and it was so hot, especially when you get wafts of heat from all of the street food vendors. We couldn't really find anywhere suitable since it was mostly street food so we ended up in a random little cafe type place behind a street food stall that I don't think gets many tourists in. However, they cooked us some amazing food and were really nice. We chatted to one of the guys for a while who I think is Chinese who told us how he used to live in London and New Zealand. He also had a really cute baby! I'm glad we went in there and not in the one where the man offered us sharks fin soup and birds nest soup... If we didn't have all our luggage with us I would have been keen to look around a bit more. There were lots of interesting Market stalls and shops. We walked past a Chinese medicine shop which had jars of various things including one with a snake and another with little seahorses in! There were also lots of gold shops which were full of people. We then decided to head over to Khaosan and hang out there for a while.
Later we went to the train station ready to catch our train to Chiang Mai. We ended up spending quite a long time there, especially since it was delayed by a few hours. We spoke to a nice Dutch girl who was travelling on her own and who was also heading to Chiang Mai. We also had an interesting experience where we watched this guy sit next to and feel up the leg of the woman who was sitting next to her boyfriend in front of us. We then watched him for ages after trying this with various different women around the train station! What was strange was the fact that no one said or did anything about it, not even the girls boyfriend, very disturbing! Me an Ryan were worried that he was going to be in the bunk next to us on the train and we had images of his hand emerging through the curtain as we slept. Creepy!!
Lots of love,
Jo and Ryan xxx
