Little Mick's Hunny Harem Extravanganza
Hi all,
Sunday morning I got up and decided I would go to mass at the Cathederal in the centre of the city and would then head out to Bondi beach after. The Cathederal is a pretty cool looking building and is massive inside. It seems a bit weird in the middle of this city but its nice all the same.
I had just got out to Bondi when Jason Lehanne gave me a call to see if I wanted to meet him for a beer. Jason is from Gortmore, Banteer, Co. Cork and I've known him a good few years. My auntie Philomena had given me his mobile number so I phoned him when I got to Sydney and left a message for him to get in touch. By pure coincidence Jason is living in Bondi, so we arranged to meet in the Chinese Tea Gardens. I know I was looking for a park also, but it is in fact a bar! Before I met Jason I went down to the beach for a few hours and just chilled out. It was a lovely day and there must have been a few hundred on the beach surfing!
I then met Jason and his girlfriend (who is from Sydeny) and we started having a few scooners of Carlton. It wasn't a mad session, but enough for me to spend the night on his couch. We went back to his place (via the off licence) and had a few drinks back at the house. It was fine for me as I am on holidays, but Jason had to be up at 6 the next morning for work! Hope the day went quickly!
Saturday I spent the day going around Darling Harbour and that area. I went to the Imax theatre to see a 3d show on sharks thinking I might see some thing like Jaws, but it was a bit timid, well it had to be as it was a PG. No blood and guts, so I was a bit disapointed. I then went to the Chinese Gardens which is a nice place. Its full of chinese trees, rocks and designs. If you want you can dress up in traditional chinese dress, but after my last attempts at dressing up I thought I'd give it a miss. There was also a great 30 min show n the ouback centre on aborignal music etc. This was quite interesting and we leanrt how to play the digi thingy! I can't spell that, but you know what I mean!
That night there was a free open air concert (a Queen tribute band) with a great fire works display afterwards. Of course I was constantly telling myself that I had to see all of Darling Harbour, but it led nicely to the Star Casino, which is where I headed for at around 9:30. Even at that time to get on a texas hold 'em table would be a wait of 4 hours, so back on the black jack tables it was. About 4 hours later I was leaving $1000 the better! Australia I love it!
Friday I headed for the Zoo & Manly. The zoo was like most other zoo's in the world and I only stayed there a short while as it was absloutly packed. I headed to Manly to another beach and also to do some of the nice walks over there. I had been told by a guy from Dublin to head to the light house and I would see some fantastic caves with aboriginal art. I headed to the light house alright, but I didn't see a cave, any art or another person for about 3 hours! At one stage I thought I'd be out in the bush stranded for ever! However I found a road, then a bus stop and headed back to Manly beach. I got the ferry back to circular quays in time for a concert at the Opera Hall at 7:30. The Finn Brothers were playing and I only got a ticket the day before by pure luck. It was sold out, but the Opera ticket office had a ticket returned. Great seat also, only 8 rows back from the front. It was great to see a show in the opera house, but the Finn Brothers were also very good and played some stuff that I knew!
Thursday had been a pretty easy day just finding my bearings around the city and seeing a few sites. I went to Mrs Macquarie's chair, the observatory, booked my bridge climb and did some shopping. I won't bore you with detais of the day, but I was shattered by the end of it.
Any way needless to say (again) Sydney is a great city and lots of fun, but I'm also glad to be moving on. I can't wait to see Perth and meet Amy again. It should be interesting to see how the eye brows have grown back and the fringe. Tonight I plan to go into Kings Cross as there are meant to be some great bars there. I have tried uploading the photos, but yet again I am in an internet cafe that blocks me from doing so. I will try to get around their blocks now!
All the best,
Mick
