Little Mick's Hunny Harem Extravanganza
Hi all,
Fisrtly Jim the photos are great (well except for 1 or 2). The ones from Rotura and of the dolphins I will print off as I didn't get photos of these places whilst on my travels. Simple thing but charging the battery for the camera isn't always my number one priority!
Well Sydney has been another amazing city. I got collected from the airport from the guy running the hostel, but that is about the only good thing I can say about the hostel. Its a bit dodgy to say the least. Its not in Kings Cross, but close enough to have ladies of the night working the street corner at the top of the road! When I left the hostel a minute ago there was a big row going on between the guy who collected me and some girl that was cleaning rooms. I wouldn't be surprised if I get back to police lights flashing and a homicide case! Another good thing is that I have a four bed dorm all to myself, so I can come and go without bothering anyone or anyone bothering me. I am just praying that it stays that way for my last night here (tonight).
Since arriving in Sydney I have been doing touristy things every day. So much that I can't remember back as far as last Thursday. I'll work my way back that might help:
Well this morning I got up to do the Sydeny Bridge walk. This is 440meters above the water and is one of the most amazing things to do in Sydney. Its an awesome experience. I just thought it would have been better if you had the opton to bungee from the top. After all its only the same height as the Nevis bungee. Now that would have made it. As it was the weather could not have been any better so the views were amazing and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. You could see as far as the blue mountains which will link nicely to the day before. I did get the photographic proof, but you'll have to wait as I will need to scan the pictures in. They don't allow you to take your own camera up (bummer). I also got breathalised (not for the first time), but this time I knew I'd pass!!!
Monday morning I woke up at Jason Lehane's place in Bondi at 6:30 and he gave me a lift to the station on his way to work. I had intended going back to bed for a rest, but then thought I'm up so I may as well keep going. I got to central station and jumped on the train to Katomba to spend the day at the blue mountains! It was a 2 hour train journey, so it was gone 9:30 when we got to our destination. There was a tour bus then to get on (included in the train ticket) but that wasn't leaving for an hour so I went off for some breakfast.
At 10:30 I jumped on the red London transport bus and headed for the first stop. When I got there I met two lasses from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary - Muireann & Roisin. Muireann is a teacher and Roisin a Garda, so I was on my best behaviour! Aren't I always? We got talking and I kinda tagged along with them for the rest of the day. I hope ye didn't mind? Roisin you must talk Muireann into doing the bridge climb. Its not scary at all and there is no danger. Some of the cliffs we walked on yesterday were a way more dangerous!
It was another beautiful winters day and the sun was shining over the blue Mountains. There were some great photo shots of the three sisters, Leura Cascades, Echo Point, Honeymoon lookout, Bridal Veil view (I know what romantic names - make yer puke). Another great photo oppertunity was to be had at Gordon's falls (not) - more like Gordon's trickle. Mick's falls would have been more impressive off the side of the mountain!!! Gordon's falls was supposed to be this great waterfall, but the whole area is in a drought and there isn't much water around, so after walking an hour to get to the falls we were none to impressed.
That said and done though the whole area is so beautiful. You could easily spend a week going on walks, horse riding, rock climbing and just relaxing. I think if Roisin had her way she would have stayed for a week! We caught the last bus with one minute to spare. I know its not like me to miss a bus, train or plane! There was a great train ride down into the rainforest area. Apperantly its the steepest train ride in the world. That was good fun and then the forest walk was also quite informative. There's a photo of the ladies up on a statue of an old coal miners horse. There was lots of kids wanting to get up, but they had to wait their turn - only joking there was no one around, so the lasses thought it would be good craic to get a photo. I gave it a miss for a change! It would be brilliant if you could paraglide off of the mountains and just float down to the bottom of the forest, but I don't think you can.
Muireann & Roisin are travelling up the east coast and meeting another friend next week, so we may bump into each other again when I am travelling down from Carins. If not keep intocuh through the website, it was a great day yesterday and nice to meet some decent people to enjoy the day with!
Any way back to sydney last night for dinner in Scruffy Murphy's and then back to the casino. I had a few lucky nights in Melbourne and one good night in Sydney, so being the bad gambler back I went. Last night I wasn't so lucky, but I only lost a few dollars. I'll continue to update the rest of the week later.
Take care,
Michael
