Megsy on the go...
CONTIKI TOUR - M & M DO EUROPE...
DAY 3-4
We have just been to one of the biggest and best parties in the WORLD - OKTOBERFEST!! But first we'll go back to yestdays events first.
We stayed a night in a sleeping village of St.Goar, which is the heart of the Rhineland in Germany. We had some wine tasting in an old bomb shelter and then back to the hotel for a few quiet ones. The few actually turned into many and fair too much! Megs wasn't feeling the best the next day. We had played a game where you pay €1 and you get a little shot bottle of Feineling (Fig alcohol) and you squeeze the lid on your nose and then without any hands pick up the bottle with your mouth and swallow it all back. You must put the bottle back on the bar without any hands and it must be standing. Whoever was fastest won and got another free bottle (which you really didn't want or need!) Then you all have a go a spitting the lid into a little hole in a box across the bar and if you got it in you got a free bottle. It was fun and you probably had to be there.
Now on to Munich... After lining up for and hour like sardines outside a beer hall waiting to get in we decided just to go searching for a beer. We ended up getting in through the side door around the corner - what luck was that! It was a massive hot smoke filled room with around 5,000 people drinking and having a good time, some a bit too much. There was a band playing German folk songs and people from all over the world.
Our group consisted of 1 poor guy, Pete from the US, with 6 girls, two sisters from Victoria and two friends from Porto Rica. We had to get ourselves a table to get served so we kind of grabbed a bit of someones. You have to order drinks through the beermaids and they bring them to you and they can carry up to 8 1 litre steins which is amazing. So we were set, drinking meeting whoever taslked to us, one nice German guy, and getting beer spilt all over us.
We decided to leave and get some food and check out some other beer tents, we were unlucky not to get back into one. We did grab more beer in an outside tent though so we were happy enough. A few people on our tour did managed to break a few steins while banging them together saying PROST! This meant cheers in German and was all we said all day. We got back to the motel after a long drive and went to bed worn out from the festivities.
We had spent all morning looking in the centre town and nearly missed our bus to the beer grounds! That wouldn't of been funny.
Tomorrow we head to Austria...
