Today we arrived at Katha, setting for George Orwell's Myanmar Days. After breakfast we went by trishaw which apparently carry 3 Asians or 1 westerner. We looked in on the local fire station which has a collection of bells taken from sunken ships in the second world war. Katha was the final resting place of the old flotilla and here over a hundred ships were scuppered on 1942 in an act of denial before the advancing Japanese. We visited George Orwells house that had seen better days all though it is now lived in by a police commissioner, then we visited the officers club and tennis courts but again seen better days.
After lunch we went by coach into the Burmese jungle to visit an elephant camp, basically a holiday camp for working elephants or something like that. We fed a few bananas then had a talk about the use of elephants in the jungle and their wellbeing.
After dinner we had a performance of "Shan Traditional Dance" by a local group of youngsters called Shan villager
