From the Bungles we headed back onto the highway and headed down to Halls Creek for lunch.
We had planned on visiting Palm Springs and Saw Tooth Gorge just out of Halls Creek on the Duncan Road. Unfortunately Duncan Road was closed just out of town, probably due to it going near communities and going into the Northern Territory.
So it was on to the Tanami Road and down to Wolfe Creek Crater. The Tanami Road was great, but the road to the crater was very rough and sandy in places. We arrived late at the craters campground and were very surprised to find we had it to ourselves! Well we did have to share it with a pair of nesting Whistling Kites that were nesting in the branches above our camp.
We had a lovely starlit night, we counted 11 satellites and saw 5 shooting stars.
In the morning we walked to the crater for a look. It doesn't look much on the approach, but once on the rim it is a whole different view. We decided to walk down into the crater to checkout the flora. There were lots of Mulla Mullas in the middle of the crater.
We then had to clamber back up the side, it is a lot steeper on the inside than the outside.
Back at camp we decided to pack up and head to Fitzroy Crossing, even though we still had it to ourselves.
On the way back to the highway though we saw two caravans and two camper trailers heading in, so we think we timed it just right.
