Kings Canyon, another 'must see' place in the NT and another place that for us, is over rated. The campground, sorry 'resort' is flash, but comes with a $50 a night for unpowered price tag. From Alice Springs we headed west into the West MacDonnell ranges and National Park. This area has got a good reputation for 'must see' places, so we were a little worried about how packed it would be. As it turned out, it wasn't too bad. I forgot to mention in my last blog when I spoke about Mataranka, that it is famous because of Jeannie Gunn's autobiographical novel We Of The Never Never published in 1908, it is an account of her experiences in 1902 on Elsey Station near Mataranka. After our not so quiet time in Kakadu, we were so happy when we visited Umbrawarra Gorge just out of Pine Creek. This gorge is some way down a dirt road and for some reason not too popular.
