Having a buffet breakfast of porridge and toast (that was the 'buffet', two options) we were collected by Khan and shepherded off toward Jodhpur.
Khan took a 'short cut' which was a country road that stretched for four hours of our six hour journey. The road was so bumpy and potholed that I spent the rest of the day in a neck brace due to severe whiplash; I'm being hyperbolic but it was bad, let me assure you.
As my music playlists are pretty damn fresh - I consider myself somewhere between Craig David and Justin Beiber - Khan requested that I send him some of the songs as he was enjoying them. I did this later on in the night and received some photos back that he had taken of us on the camels, which was very thoughtful. However, later in the morning he sent a picture of a bunch of roses with good morning written on them, I couldn't decide whether this was creepy or nice - I'm going to assume nice.
I was very keen to get to Jodhpur as pictures of it depict it with hundreds of buildings all painted blue, giving it th nickname, 'Blue City'. Apparently, there are two main reasons why the buildings are blue: firstly, because Lord Shiva is blue and therefore the colour is considered to be sacred; secondly, the blue coloured paint is made using copper sulphate and limestone which is mined very close to the city making it the cheapest paint available.
Jodhpur is also nicknamed, 'Sun City', due to the hot climate and sun that it enjoys all year around. It is also renowned for its food and hilltop fort which looms over the old city, which is hemmed in by a great wall and several narrow gates.
Our hotel, Bhavyam Heritage Home, is right up the mountain side, through a tangle of narrow streets, and right next to the fort. The views over the city are breathtaking where you can see as far as the famous hotel, Umaid Bhawan Palace, on the other side of the city which looks hugely iconic, resting on the city's skyline. Disappointingly, not that many of the buildings are blue as I had been promised by google images. We will have an explore tomorrow and see if we can find a particularly cobalt area to marvel at.
