With a flight to Manila booked for 23:45 tonight we had a day to kill and decided to spend it having a really good explore in Nadi.
Catching a bus to town only cost $1 and was a pleasant experience as the bus had no glass in the windows so that you got a blasting of cold air.
Nadi was alive with mums and their glum looking children being dragged from shop to shop as the school holidays came to a close and last minute uniforms and school shoes were being forced onto unwilling little bodies.
I was determined to find a glorious Fijian rugby jersey or vest so sent out in the sweltering heat to find one with poor Chelsea in tow with crepitations emanating from her body. After much painstaking hunting I found the badger that I liked, a slinky vest with 'Nadi Rugby' and Fijian patterns all over it. I turned a few heads on the way home let me tell you.
After a brisk lunch we stumbled along a souvenir market where traditional Fijian masks, weapons and ornaments were for sale. I couldn't resist buying a Fijian war mask which will look the terrier's testicles on my shelf at home. My plan is to collect a few interesting things on my travels and have them on my mantelpiece like my grandparents used to. Unfortunately for me - and future Bills' down the line - Chelsea put her foot down and wouldn't let me buy a four foot war club. Shame.
With a bit more weight to add to our rucksacks, we toddled back to our dorm and awaited our taxi as a fine drizzle started to fall around us.
