Here we are in Siem Reap. The most popular tourist destination in Cambodia (250k Koreans a year!!) due to its proximatey to Angkor Wat.
Not at the moment though its low season and the rains have started. But there are still many tourists here.
Anyway we had a three day pass for Angkor Wat and its totally worth it! Besides Angkor Wat there are loads more temples to see there. The photo's we've uploaded are a very small sample of what we have (as with everywhere) of the temples.
All the temples are superb the only thing that spoils them is the shear amount of tourists even in low season they are over-run! The only way to avoid them is by getting up at 4am to visit!
Siem Reap is a small place, yet is developing rapidly. Foreign investors are throwing up huge 5 star hotels, particularly for Korean visitors. The sad thing is that the majority of money from Korean tourists does not actually get to local people - Even Angkor Wat is run by a Japanese company!!
Yesterday we went to see the floating village on Tonle Sap lake - even the school, shops and church are all floating on there! Kids of course get to school by boat. The lake itself is huge - tomorrow we travel to Battambang - a 6 hour journey across the lake - but in the peak of wet season the Tonle Sap swells to such a size it is visible from space!
We've just discovered an Irish bar here, it does the best Shepherd's pie I've ever had - sorry Mums and Mrs Kim!!
Apologies to all, for the lack of communication - finding a fast internet connection in Cambodia has been a struggle and we don't have a mobile signal here plus phones are a rip-off!
Ah well, we have a short trip to Battabang for two days, then back to Bangkok. We will miss Cambodia very much, the people are great and so's the food.
Ta-ta fer now.
Lots of love,
Rick and Kim x x x
PS Hello to the dancing tuk-tuk driver who took us to Zone One!
Big love to Thai Si, who has left us to go back to Phnom Penh - safe journey and remember always wear your boots! Hopefully see you in Bangkok - if not Bristol???!
If you have any spare tails knocking about please send them to Cambodia at the cat's are short.
