Hello everyone,
Another busy week has been had and we had a busy day today uploading lots more pictures for you guys to follow us on our travels. We started off the week in Potosi in Bolivia and we moved onto Uyuni in Bolivia where we visited the Salt Flats and Fish Island, it was absolutely fantastic and we had a lot of fun creating our photos on the flats. We also experienced the best pizza in the whole of South America in Uyuni despite it being a bt of ghost town. The chocolate cake was also amazing!
On Thursay we left Potosi and began our trip towards the border with Argentina. We spent Thursday night in Topiza and on Rachel's birthday we were up at 4.45am in the morning to begin our 12 hour truck journey to Salta in Argentina. We arrived in Salta about 6.30pm and we set up our tents for our 3 day stay in Salta, we are camping next to one of the worlds largest swimming pools but unfortunately there is no water in it at the moment! The washing facilities look like something out of a horror movie but the water is hot so we are extremely pleased, we are easily pleased these days.
We are both loving Argentina so far, it is more civilised than Bolivia and the weather is absolutely fantasic, it is finally bikini weather and we can start working on our tans. It is a beautiful country and the food is magic! On Friday night we all went our for a group meal for Rachels birthday and we enjoyed the most amazing fillet steak!! We had to share one because they were absolutely huge!!
Rachels birthday continued onto Saturday and we both experienced a day we wont ever forget. We went white water rafting in a canyon and Gayle managed not to fall in the water which is very surprising as everyone who knows Gayle will understand! Extremely clumsy! We have a disc with pictures on which we hope to upload onto the blog at some point. We were on a day excursion and we had a BBQ in the scorching sunshine! After lunch we went zip lining, it was one of the most frightening experiences we have encountered but it was fantastic fun. We went down 4 different zip lines, and we started with the highest at 160 metres which looked down onto the Canyon below!! We did Scotland proud, there were 50 people in our group for the Zip Lining and the first four people down were all Scottish!! Elaine, Tim, Rachel then Gayle all from our Tucan Travel Group! We were hooked onto the line and it was basically like a big swing, we were both rather scared of getting stuck in the middle of the first line but we successfully made it accross all four lines!! We still cant believe we have down it, especially Gayle as I have a fear of heights!
Once we returned to the camp after our rafting and zip lining we threw Rachel and Milke(one of the boys on our tour group) a surprise birthday party as it was Rachels bday on the Friday and Mikes on the Saturday!! We had baloons, music and dancing, party games and punch! We headed out to the centre of Salta and went to club called Inside, where lots of Salsa dancing took place! Very enjoyable evening indeed!
Well, we had a lazy day today as we have many miles to cover in the truck over the next week! By next weekend we will be at the Iguazu falls with the border of Argentina and Brasil! We also have a visit to the Pantanal the following week which we are both very excited about! Cant belive we are more than half way through our trip in South America, this time in 3 weeks we will be on our flight to New Zealand! Time flies when you are having fun!
Thank you again for Rachels birthday wishes and all the othe messages we have been receiving!!
